STUDENT LOAN ADVOCATE ATTORNEY

The Attorney General’s Office is seeking a highly motivated attorney to join the Insurance & Financial Services Division as a Student Loan Advocate Attorney. The Division provides consumer assistance and enforces laws regarding insurance, investment, and lending issues, and has a focus on postsecondary educational debt, including student loan servicing and debt collection.
Primary Duties: Student Loan Advocate Attorney engages in consumer advocacy, legal research, and investigation regarding consumer financial services issues, with a special focus on student loan and debt, in addition to other lending, insurance, and investment matters. The Attorney assists consumers in navigating federal student loan repayment and debt relief opportunities, mediate consumer complaints, work on student loan and other financial services policy issues, participate in outreach and education initiatives, and help more experienced Assistant Attorneys General with the investigation/litigation of consumer protection matters, legal research, and the implementation of settlements.
Position Requirements:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Familiarity with financial products, student loans, or the Massachusetts Consumer Protection Act, preferred.
- Ability to learn previously unfamiliar technical concepts and material quickly, preferred.
- Excellent work ethic and attention to detail.
- Effective research, writing, editing, and oral communication skills required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, required.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated interest in working in the public interest.

Position Type: Full-Time/Exempt.
Our current hybrid model includes some remote workdays for most positions. On in-office days, employees are required to report to one of our designated office locations, either in Boston or at a regional office.
Salary: $77,147
